According to Bloomberg, OpenAI is nearing the release of a new software called “Operator,” designed to perform tasks directly on a user’s computer. Initially, Operator is expected to debut as a research preview accessible through OpenAI’s developer API.
The tool will compete with similar offerings, such as Anthropic’s “Computer Use” agent and Google’s rumoured consumer-oriented agent. While its unique capabilities remain uncertain, Bloomberg suggests Operator might function as a versatile tool for completing tasks within a web browser.
The news coincided with the release of OpenAI’s policy paper, which outlines recommendations for the U.S. AI strategy. Among the suggestions are creating AI-focused economic zones to foster infrastructure development and forming an alliance with U.S. partners to enhance competitiveness with China in AI advancements.
